What is ICS?

ICS was founded in 2005 by nine expats that had lived in Slovenia permanently for many years. We wanted to provide a club for all expats, men and women living here permanently or temporarily. We had many discussions over a long period of time as to how we should be structured. We thought it would be a good idea to have as little formal structure as possible, make it simple for everyone to be involved and to determine for themselves if they wanted to help plan events and handle things like newsletters and the website. Nobody wanted this to be a 'job'. We wanted it dynamic and fun. So early on, we were lucky to find so many volunteers and sponsors to get us started. We didn't want to cater to huge groups, as it becomes too impersonal and difficult to sustain. So we decided that even if we ran an event and only 3 people showed up or 5 it was 3 or 5 people who hadn't met before - it was a success.. The club began in earnest in September of 2005. We gave ourselves the name of ICS short for the 'International Club of Slovenia'.

Since then, we haven't looked back. From our humble beginnings of 9 founding members, we've grown to 240+ members. Each month, we add on more as Ljubljana seems to be attracting more expats every year. We've hosted many events from dinners, sporting events, cultural events, Quiz Nite and Girls Nite Out. We've had our members run events like paintball, rafting, dancing parties, Murder Mystery Dinners, wine tasting parties, Gourmet Bike Tour and we could go on and on. But the bottom line is that ICS has become a way for expats to meet each other in a relaxed and fun atmosphere -.home away from home.

ICS is a purely voluntary organization which is geared for socializing purposes. It is non-political, non-religious and is not affiliated with any charitable groups. We have no restrictivde policy for individual members to be involved with charitable functions, as many of us are, but it is not part of the ICS charter. We communicate electronically by our ICS website and via email. For the last two years, membership has been free and we intend for now to keep it that way. We continue to live up to our motto 'ICS - the fun club for expats' by running diverse and dynamic events monthly that are inclusive as much as possible of all members and their families
